Indie Author Magazine Doubles Contributor Pay, Shifts to Weekly Digital Format

Indie Author Magazine, the leading publication for independent authors, announced a major format shift for 2026 that includes doubled contributor compensation, a move to weekly digital publishing, and the addition of video interviews with publishing industry leaders.

The magazine launched the new format in January 2026 with longer editorial pieces and sit-down video interviews featuring Kris Austin, CEO of Draft2Digital, and Andy Hunter, CEO of Bookshop.org.

“Our contributors deserve to be paid fairly for deeper work, and our readers deserve content that goes beyond surface-level advice,” said Chelle Honiker, Managing Partner of Athenia Creative Services and publisher of Indie Author Magazine.

Under the new rate structure, contributor pay for articles over 2,500 words reaches $200. Mid-range articles between 601 and 2,499 words now pay $100, and shorter pieces pay $30. The updated Schedule A took effect January 1, 2026.

The weekly digital cadence replaces the previous monthly publishing cycle, giving readers fresh content every week. A quarterly print edition will complement the digital output, offering curated collections of the best long-form pieces from each quarter.

The addition of video interviews marks another expansion for the publication. The conversations with Austin and Hunter cover the state of direct sales, wide distribution strategies, and the evolving relationship between authors and retailers.

Indie Author Magazine reaches a combined audience of over 153,000 subscribers across its network of brands, which includes Wide For The Win, Indie Author Training, and Author Automations.
